"The training programme was my preference because of the reputation that BDO has in training business people. The best thing about the programme is the overall training provided. You get a flavour of all aspects of the practice and you experience a large variety of different business sectors.
It has helped my career develop because of the career progression within the company. The ethos in the firm is that anything can be achieved and you are supported in all development endeavours. What I particularly like about the work is the diversity of clients and businesses we work with; everything from small sole traders to companies that are part of large worldwide groups. Some of the more interesting assignments I work on include the auditing of large companies with worldwide business links. I also find the internal auditing of a PLC very interesting.
My job now involves showing the new graduates how we work in General Practice and helping with any queries that juniors and seniors may have. I also deal with clients on a daily basis, whilst liasing with the partners, directors and the rest of the staff.
It has helped me develop key skills in working as part of a team and providing support to other team members. I have learned about time management, delegation and I also have better communication skills.
I really enjoy the people and work environment at BDO Simpson Xavier because we are all around the same age and there is a very supportive atmosphere. There is also a great sense of camaraderie and friendliness in BDO."
