"I chose BDO Simpson Xavier’s training programme because it provided me with an opportunity to remain in Limerick, working in a progressive firm with an excellent training record. I also knew the firm provided sufficient study leave for exam success and I that I would receive a broad general training in audit, accountancy and tax. There is also broad business training provided, together with significant opportunity for the right candidates to progress in the firm. Three out of four trainees who finished their training contract this year (2007) remained with the firm.
It has helped my career progress because I have had an opportunity to work on a wide variety of assignments across all departments within the firm, thus enhancing my own skill set. On a personal level I have worked in a number of management roles within the firm and have received training and support in all roles undertaken.
I am now a Partner in the Business Advisory Area of our General Practice Department. This involves providing audit, accounting and business advisory services to a broad portfolio of clients across all business sectors. What I particularly like about the work I am involved in is the opportunity to work with some of the leading business people in the Mid West. Some of the more interesting assignments I work on include the audit of leading businesses in the Mid-West, sale of family businesses, tax and wealth planning for high net worth individuals.
I have also developed key business skills, as the purpose of the firms training is to create rounded business advisors. This encompasses a number of key skill sets such as strong technical acumen, excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work as part of a team.
I enjoy the people and work environment at BDO Simpson Xavier because the firm has given me an opportunity to receive a broad level of training in one of Ireland’s leading professional services firms. There is also a great mix of people within the firm and an excellent social scene outside of work."
