"The excellent reputation the firm has in the Limerick region and the diverse range of clients and industries I would be exposed to were my main reasons for selecting the BDO programme. You receive a great business grounding that will stand to you in later life, no matter which path you follow. The qualification you receive in BDO is widely acknowledged and respected, both in practice and industry. After my training in General Practice I joined a smaller practice but rejoined the tax department to focus on Tax as a career. I realised when I left BDO for that short time the wealth of information and experience I had gained.

My main areas of responsibility are now in the tax planning section of the taxation department. We work on an advisory basis with our clients, including areas of estate planning, company restructuring and consultancy projects. What I particularly like about the work I am involved in is that it is interesting and challenging and differs week to week and in some cases, day to day. Some of the more interesting assignments I work on include assisting clients in organising their affairs, allowing them to access funds as tax efficiently as possible. Other interesting assignments include transferring companies and assets from one generation to the next.

My overall training has helped develop key skills in understanding and dealing with client’s concerns and wishes. It has also helped me to broaden my horizons and knowledge of other relevant professional areas such as financial services and company secretarial. What is really great about BDO Simpson Xavier is that everybody helps each other out and office doors are always open. Regardless of the level they are always approachable."
